Its all coming together, the backsplash, counter and sinks

It is week seven and there is lots of progress in the @oneroomchallenge on the home stretch. This One Room Challenge seemed to start out slowly with many weeks lying ahead and now we are on high speed heading to the end.

But first, the @oneroomchallenge is sponsored by One Room Challenge and Better Homes and Gardens.   Be sure to check out the ORC featured designers as they are the real stars of this show.  This is what has happened in week one, week two, week three and week four as we renovate our family bathroom.

During week five and six most of the tile was installed and the painting  of the cabinets was completed, so it is time to start putting every thing back together.

Immense Progress With the Cabinets Re-Installed

Once the floor was grouted and sealed, we moved the cabinets back into place.  I am so glad that I decided to go with the darker Slate Blue.  The colour gives such a presence to the room.

Quartz Installed

When the cabinets were in place, we were able to measure and install the quartz counter top.  It is a bit of a funny story with the counter top as we were on our way to pick it out on the day before the world officially shut down due to Covid19.  We went into the warehouse and the woman that we have always dealt with when buying quartz, stood back and pointed in a direction to the white ones they had.  I could not really see it but said yes since   I was distracted by the state of the world.

On the drive home, my husband said, I am surprised that you picked sparkles!  I am not a sparkles person and I was shocked that I didn’t look closely enough, to see what I actually picked. But, the choice was made.  Serves me right.  I can’t tell you how relieved I was, once the quartz arrived. It does have a slight sparkle to it, but I actually really like it.

When we chose our quartz, we also ordered two, small square sinks.  I knew that we were having oval mirrors, so I did not want an oval sink as well.

You can see a bit of sparkle in the counters that I did not bargain for, but it works really well.

Back Splash Progress

Once the counter was in place, the tiling of the backsplash could begin.  This star tile is the first thing I found and I was so excited for it to go up.  Before, the tile was installed we mapped out where the mirrors would be placed and installed necessary supports.

Faucets

Once the tile was in place, the wonderful black faucets could be installed.  They have such a nice feeling to them and I love the way that the water comes out in a flat waterfall.

Shower Progress

When we ordered our counter top we also ordered a plinth for the edge of the shower.  This will be the basis for the glass to be installed and will act as a step into the shower.

We decided to just go with a sheet of glass rather than glass with a door.   The glass is 35 inches wide and it has a black rim where it fastens.

The black trim on the glass adds so much.

Toilet

The other installation was our new streamlined toilet.  I have been so excited to get one of these toilets.  Anyone who has males in the house will agree.  There are fewer ridges to clean and the toilet seat actually comes off for easy cleaning.

I cannot talk enough about this seamless toilet from Home Depot

One of the last things we did was painting the bathing the bathroom walls.  I did not want white as I felt there there had to be some differentiation.  So we went with a pale grey

I can’t wait for next week when we show you the final reveal.  We have a few things to install and I can’t wait to see it all come together.

Always

Leslie
