The idea for a bedroom makeover came when our daughter Mackenzie said that she wished she could have a bedroom that looked like ours. We had just updated our master bedroom as part of the fall 2019 One Room Challenge. The starting point for that room was this tick mark peel and stick wallpaper from roommatesdecor.com. Naturally they were my first point of contact.
Peel and Stick Wallpaper
Peel and stick wallpaper is a great choice for both permanent and temporary locations. If you plan on selling your house, peel and stick wallpaper is an added feature because of the drama it adds to any room, but if someone doesn’t share your taste they can easily remove it. Because it is so easily removed, leaving the wall intact, it is perfect for apartments, dorms or any other temporary location.
A Surprise Bedroom MakeOver
We decided to do a surprise bedroom makeover on Mackenzie’s room as an early part of her Christmas gift. With two degrees under her belt, Mackenzie teaches middle school physical education and biology. She lives in a townhouse in Ottawa with three other professional young ladies. They girls are not sure how long they will live together in this current location, so peel and stick wallpaper is a perfect choice.
I had showed Mackenzie pictures of several different wallpapers and she told me what she liked. I said to leave it with me. Room Mates Decor agreed to collaborate. Then I set to planning an effective, quick and budget friendly bedroom makeover.
Before the Bedroom Makeover

Since she is just starting out in her career she had plenty of hand-me-downs. I worked with that and still elevated the room significantly.
The Plan
We settled on the the Black Photographic Floral Peel and Stick wallpaper Mural from roommatesdcor.com This wallpaper works well with the grey walls that cannot be changed.

I made a trip to Ikea and pick up a number of accent pieces. We had decided on blush as the main accent colour. Amazon was also helpful for some of the things we needed.
The Surprise Day
We asked Mackenzie to leave for the day and we landed on her doorstep bright and early. I had wrapped up the wall paper for Christmas and took a video of her when she was opening the gift. We bid her goodbye and got to work.

Peel And Stick Wallpaper Installation
Installing a peel and stick mural is not that different than installing wall paper. We first got a straight line as our starting point and went from there. The repeat on this wallpaper was 13 inches. You can read about the process for installing wallpaper here.

In no time we had the wall finished and it looks so dramatic. I like to use a really dramatic wallpaper or bedding when there are mismatched pieces in the room. The busy piece draws the attention away from other pieces in the room and provides a cohesive element.
Accessories
To finish off the room, we added curtains, pillows and accessories. I painted a few things gold such as her night table handles and her mirror and this gave the room a bit of pop.

I had come prepared for our one day makeover with a tool kit for installing, scissors, greenery, pillow inserts and an iron and ironing board. It’s almost like being a dance mom again before a big show. We were in and out of there in four hours.
The Bedroom Makeover Reveal

It was so much fun revealing the room to Mackenzie. It just warms my heart to see her so pleased with the results. She has been working hard at getting her career going and I am so happy to be able to give her a beautiful spot to recharge her batteries at the end of a long day teaching children.

Always
