I have always wanted my own girly home office and now I have one that’s all mine!

Before I Didn’t Really Need An Office
We had a home office at our last house, but it was more like the family home office. We stored our family financial information, tax information and all the craft supplies there. No one actually worked in that office, including myself, unless the kitchen table and island were too crowded. (Sorry all photos of that house were lost in a computer crash).
The truth is I really didn’t need my own office. I had an office downtown for my day job and when I came home and did family paperwork I joined the rest of them at the island or the kitchen table.
My Needs Changed
But something changed for me. Last summer we had a house full of young adults home. I love my kids, but boy do they take up a lot of space. Constantly moving papers around and misplacing things along the way was frustrating.
For a while I worked in our mudroom ,where I was very happy. But when puppy arrived, it wasn’t long until she had chewed the cord to my printer and pulled down my bulletin board and ate what was posted. I wasn’t sure what would happen next, so I moved out in a hurry.
An Office In The Screened-In Porch
I really needed some peace and quiet, so I moved to the only available space, the screened-in porch. This seemed like a luxury for a while. Working on my laptop beside the flowing river was so peaceful. However, the downsides were that the wifi could be spotty and a few of my papers got soaked in a windy rainstorm.

So I continued wandering the home for a place that was just my own.
Moving Into My Daughter’s Former Bedroom
When our oldest daughter announced she was moving in with friends, I was sad to see her go. But I have to confess that the wheels started turning fairly quickly. She was barely out the door and so was her bed and I was moving myself in.
A Massive Desk
My husband @Geraintthewelsh made me this incredible 96 by 36 work top in a crisp white. The top is held up by black wrought iron trestle base that we switched out from our dining table. I think every room needs a bit of black so this slim, black base grounds this light, bright, girly room.

A Comfy Chair
That is the Haworth Look chair. This is a wonderfully comfortable task chair. And the fabric pattern is so cute.

Storage
I was finally able to unpack my accessories that I have been moving around the house. The bonus of using a bedroom for an office is the ample storage. I have an original-to the house, storage shelf and it works beautifully for all of my office needs.

A New Label-Maker
I should mention that my trusty label maker died. Probably from over use. This new P-Touch PT-210 Easy, Compact Label Maker is great. You can buy different colour cartridges to go in it so I will have a lot of fu n with this.

A Quiet Spot
I can’t tell you how much I love my office. It is warm and bright and I don’t get disturbed. Sometimes I just come in here to read.

Did you notice the puppy’s bed? She loves it just as much as I do.

Storage for Memorabelia
@Geraintthewelsh made me this great shelf to store some of my favourite things. It is simply two pine boards, which I stained. The black brackets are from Home Depot.

The point is that there are probably a few different spots were you could set up a work space in your home. Even if it is on the kitchen island.
My next goal for this room is to find a low pile rug that allows my chair to move easily but protects the floor.
Have you found a place of your own? Tell me about it!
Always
Leslie
